This month we celebrate Independence Day in the United States. In conversation with myself, I asked, "what do freedom and independence mean to me and how have they manifested in my life?"

Twenty-two years ago, I chose the industry of network marketing because it embodied the principles of freedom and independence. I know of no other place where we have the freedom to work how, where,
when and with whom we choose, and the ability  to attain true financial independence for ourselves and our families.

As with any journey, there can be many bumps, hurdles and detours along the way; but just knowing that in overcoming every obstacle you are closer to your goal of building a true legacy, an empire of
your very own, you are manifesting the ultimate expression of freedom.

Today, I give thanks to the industry of network marketing for setting me FREE!!!

I know I'm not alone in believing that network marketing is the ultimate vehicle in achieving financial and personal independence. We want to hear your expression of freedom! Coming Full Circle

Today I woke up basking in the pleasure of a very special memory that shaped my life in two profound ways. It was twenty-two years ago today that my son Caleb was born. Just like it was yesterday, I can still see the serious expression on his furrowed brow as we looked into each others eyes for the very first time. He looked so very wise and with instant recognition I felt as if life had never existed without him. Simultaneously, I was overtaken by the deepest sense of falling in love I had ever felt. (If you're a parent, you know exactly what I'm talking about!).

With the birth of Caleb, my entrepreneurial spirit was ignited. I was a Jr. High School teacher, off for the summer break but by the time I was released from the hospital, I already knew my life's purpose was redefining itself. I had no idea what I was going to do, but one thing I knew for sure, it didn't include putting my baby soul mate into daycare so I could go back to teaching in September.

Thanks to my sister Lisa, I found network marketing, my new career path and passion! Just as with  parenting, I had no idea that I had just bought a lifetime pass to a roller coaster ride where the only  constant is the ups and downs. And I'll admit, there have been many times over the past twenty-two years where I've wanted quit ( network marketing, not parenting!) and go back to something easier, like a "real" J.O.B. where you clock in and clock out and just forget it at the end of the day.

But it always came back to Caleb, and three years later my daughter Olivia too. Nothing else could give me the ability to provide a superior life style for my family. And I'm not just talking about money; I'm talking about the freedom and flexibility of CHOICE!

The freedom to:

• Work from home around the kids' schedules
• Experience all of the "Firsts" (steps, words, discoveries)
• Volunteer in their classrooms
• Go on field trips
• Go to the park & the beach in the middle of the day
• Take a nap
• Travel
• Set and achieve my own income goals
• Include my family in my work
• Express myself creatively
• Inspire and lead others
• Demonstrate self-motivation and work ethic to my children

So every time I bumped up against a challenge in business like:

• My top producing distributor quits
• My company changes the compensation plan (again)
• The Products are back ordered - orders are all late
• I go through a sponsoring slump that lasts 5 months
• None of my guests show up to the meeting
• My company goes out of business due to poor management
• I start all over again from scratch
• My company gets shut down by the FTC

And many, many, more challenges....

and every time, with every challenge and every completely understandable desire to quit, I go back to my "WHY"...my Caleb & Olivia...I just look into their eyes and I am clear. It's time to dust myself off, pick myself up, take that 10 second commute to my home office and start smiling and dialing with passion and purpose, knowing full well that QUITTING IS NOT AN OPTION!!! (Repeat after me: QUITTING IS NOT AN OPTION!!!)

So I ask you, what is your WHY? What is that unyielding, underlying driving force, that bigger-than-life purpose and passion, that will pull you back on the UP TRACK of your roller coaster to success? This is a question you must be able to answer with 100% clarity because I can guarantee you, there will be challenges in your business that will cause you to ask (or yell!), "why am I doing this?" The answer needs to be so compelling crystal clear that it shouts back at you twice as loud!

If you're not clear on your "Why" here's a fun exercise to help you uncover it:

Determine your "WHY" Today!

Get A Notebook and make it a nice one that you'll enjoy working in. This will become your road map to success and will be with you through the duration of your journey.

Find a nice quiet place without any distractions. Prepare to spend at least 30 minutes on this exercise. Don't worry about how your answers sound. Just free flow write. This is fun and can be very revealing!

1. If I didn't have to work for a living what would I love to do?
2. If I were given $10 million dollars (tax free!) what would I do with it? (Of course you'd pay the bills, but after that) No limits here, write it ALL down!
3. If I just found out I had six (healthy) months to live, what would I do with the rest of my life (your "Bucket List")?

Identifying Your "WHY" Helps You Define Your True Purpose In Life!

Now try to determine the essence of these desires. Ask yourself, "if I did this, or had that, what would it bring to me?" These thoughts should reveal to you the lifestyle you want and the type of person you aspire to be.

When you know your purpose, you can put passion behind it. When you move forward with passion, there's no stopping you and others will be attracted to follow you! Therein lies the key to success in your home-based business!

Make a commitment to yourself to pursue your life's purpose and create the lifestyle you want. Become the person you desire to be. Your purpose and the passion that flows from it, is what will empower you, no matter how wild the ride gets! I know, I've been there!

Coming Full Circle, the Best Reward of All!

At the tender young age of just twenty-two, Caleb is going on his third year  as successful entrepreneur working from home too, with a support team in place so he can work ON his expanding business instead of IN it! He too is psychologically unemployable. I guess you can say it's in his genes! Of course that's the ultimate reward for me, his mom!)

Vision Board Party

Happy New Year!

I have to say, the holidays and down time we're great but it feels so good to be back to work and in
pursuit of brand new goals with a renewed sense of vigor!

You ARE feeling that way too, aren't you?

If you're needing a little kick start, or some deep down inspiration, I have a suggestion for you! Get out some magazines, scissors and glue and create your Vision Board...or better yet, get together with a group of friends for a Vision Board Party!

That's exactly what we did New Years weekend. I had a group of friends over from my jazz dance class and we put on some soft music, poured some mimosas, cranked up the fire and settled in for a long afternoon of projecting our dreams onto poster board in vivid, vibrant colorful expressions of who we are becoming this year and beyond. It truly was a magical day and deepened our relationship with each other as well as ourselves.

If you've never heard of a Vision Board, I suggest you watch the movie The Secret (most video rental stores now carry it) which popularized this activity that many of us in the personal development world have been doing for decades. In short, it is a collage of pictures and words that represent what you're intending to create in your life.

All of the success masters and even successful businesses like IBM will tell you that when setting  goals, BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND. There's no better way to do this than a Vision Board!

I have my board hanging on the wall of my office now and it is a daily reminder of the unlimited realm of possibilities I am attracting into my life. And in dance class, my friends keep thanking me for hosting the event, sharing how they're feeling more focused and excited about their goals than ever before.

Here are a few pointers for you in case you have never made a vision board before:

1.) Spend a few quiet moments before you begin and allow yourself to be open and guided by your intuition.

2.) Put on some soft music.

3.) Cut out pictures in magazines that "speak to you". Again, allow your intuition to be your guide.

4.) Include pictures representing different aspects of your life such as: health, career, finances, relationship & family, spirituality, personal development, community.

5.) Don't glue things down right away. Once you have a lot of pictures, begin laying them out on your poster board. You'll be amazed at how it comes together. Again, let your intuition guide you.

6.) Glue sticks are handy but the glue doesn't always last long term. Elmer's is the worst for this project. Rubber cement is best.

7.) Include a picture of yourself! You should be central in your vision!

(We had 11 & 13 year old sisters at our party and instead of photos they put a piece of mirror in their
boards so they can always see their present self in their Vision- so clever!).

8.) You might also use images from greeting cards or other memorabilia you have collected.

9.) If there is an image of something in particular you want to include but can't find, google "images"
and print them. I was able to find a universal symbol for "family connection" and a symbol for "circle of friends" and one for "animal rescue" in this way.

10.) Hang your board where you will see it daily and spend a few moments intentionally and gratefully enjoying the future you are attracting.

The Law of Giving and Receiving

You've heard of the law of giving and receiving. Yesterday I had an instant manifestation of the principle!

While browsing one of my favorite online stores (Cold Water Creek) I saw a dress that would be perfect for my good friend Christine. She plays piano for a church and loves to dress for the part. When the dress arrived I was so excited to give it to her. There was no special occasion, other than I wanted to make my good friend happy.

Christine and I take jazz dance together four mornings a week and we have a tradition of staying after class for coffee (I sure do enjoy the freedom of working from home!). So I wrapped up the present in colorful paper with a great big bow and took it to class. I didn't plan on telling Christine it was for her until coffee time but when she entered the dance room she wasn't her normal bouncy self and she told me she was feeling a little down. So I showed her the present and told it was for her and immediately her face lit up and her spirits soared!

We had a great dance class (as always) and met in the Juice Bar for Coffee. I was so excited to give her the gift! But what's this? Christine comes in carrying not one, but TWO packages for me! Two, "for no particular reason gifts" on the very same day!

We had to chuckle at how in sync with each other we are...no wonder we're such great friends! Christine loved her dress which delighted me even more than the lovely things I received from her. And as I write this, I realize we never did even talk about what had Christine down. Those feelings had vanished, just like the steam from our coffee!

It was interesting how many people stopped by our table to ask whose birthday it was, to which we both cheerily replied, "Nobody's"! It gave people pause to be reminded that everyday is the perfect day to give!

I think this should be our philosophy in business as well. We can ask ourselves: 

• What value can I bring to this person?
• How can I truly help them get what they want?
• How can I be of service?

Coming from a place of servitude, opens up the channels of authentic communication, of mutual respect and genuine connection with another human being.

In my work, I coach a lot of people who fear the idea of sales. They hold themselves back from succeeding in their businesses because their current belief system is that it's uncomfortable or even wrong to ask others to spend money so that they might prosper. I remind them of the law of giving and receiving and I share with them my mantra that helped me overcome this fear 21 years ago when I first started in network marketing. My mantra was, "I'm not asking for a favor, I'm offering an opportunity"..."I'm not asking for a favor, I'm offering an opportunity"...I'm not asking for a favor, I'm offering an opportunity." I would literally repeat that over and over until it became a part of my neurology, my DNA!

If you truly believe in your products, services and opportunity and if you truly focus first on how you can help the other person fulfill their needs and desires, you will both win big time!

I'm sure you've heard it before: Help enough people get what they want and it will come back to you one hundred fold! Just like my "gift for no particular reason" day with Christine!

Now That's What I Call Commitment!

I want to share with you an inspiring story about a lady named Sonja from Abu Dhabi in just a moment but first, let me ask you...

On a scale of 1-10 how committed are you to the success of your business, right now...Today? When is the last time you were really 100% committed to doing whatever it takes to grow your business to the next level? You might think that's a strange question. Perhaps you believe you are always 100% committed. So let me ask this another way. When is the last time you made an excuse not to do what you knew was important to your success because you felt too tired, too broke, too overwhelmed, too busy, too distracted or too_______________ (you fill in the blank)?

I recently had the privilege of meeting a woman whom I consider a perfect '10' in terms of commitment. Her name is Sonja and she lives in Abu Dhabi which is located in the United Arab Emarites.

Sonja applied for my Dialing for Dollars Workshop and when I saw where she was located and noted the time zone difference, I thought the workshop probably wouldn't work for her.  But I've learned never to make decisions (or excuses) for other people so I called her up. We chatted about her goals and what she most wanted to gain from the workshop and we agreed it was a perfect fit. Although Sonja would have to be getting up at 3:00 in the morning 5 days in a row and dialing into our conference line from half-way around the planet, she made the commitment.

And that's not the end of it. Sonja was always the first one on the webinar, always ready to volunteer and was the first to step up and start interviewing prospects live in front of the rest of the participants. She made a commitment to play full out and as a result she grew tremendously.

Here's what Sonja wrote to me after the workshop:

Hi Tracy,

As you know, I recently took part in your Dialing4Dollars Workshop. What an incredible experience !

Being new in the Network Marketing arena, I found myself hesitating ; not knowing the best way to build a successful network marketing business of my own. I found myself constantly wondering if I'm doing it right and what the next best step will be to success. As a result many precious hours have been lost.

After this workshop I can truly say that I have learnt (and am continuing to learn daily) how to be more focused and which actions I have to take on a daily basis in order to be successful. First, Rome was not built in a day --so take one step at a time; but in the right direction. I am learning how to use my contact manager as well as the basic script when speaking to prospects. Using the contact manager helps to keep me on track without hundreds of post-its all over the house. I have a "do not disturb" sign--so my family knows when I am busy.

When prospecting-always end on a positive call !! I found this so important because. You feel successful and next time I only have positive memories --no negatives. Reward myself--This will take a while...

I have structure to my business and I keep track of all my actions to stimulate growth in my business. This prompts me to do more toward building my business and spend less time doing things around my business that is not productive to business growth.

I cannot thank you and your team enough for this precious information that will lead to my success!

So much to learn but day by day; in every way; I'm getting better and better.
